Intimate partner violence

This is a worldwide issue affecting both men and women but women more commonly. Even when the issue is recognized it remains under addressed. It causes significant physical injury and death and psychiatric issues. Your family physician should be screening for this at least annually. Even when this problem is diagnosed many people are unwilling to leave their partner.

There is a national domestic violence hotline number, 1-800-799-safe. Also there is futures without violence, http://www.futureswithoutviolence.org. National coalition against domestic violence, http://www.ncadv.org

This information was obtained from an article in the American family physician magazine by Daniel Dicola, M.D. and Elizabeth Spaar, D.O.
