We live in a world of iPhone’s, tablets and computers. Our video games have come a long way from the days of Space Invaders and Frogger. (If you know what I’m referring to, your age is showing.) This has led to an increasing number of children who are playing virtual sports instead of physical ones. Combine this with parents’ tight schedules or finances (or both!) and the need for easy or fast foods and you should not be surprised to note that childhood obesity now affects 1 in 5 children in the US.
You may be wondering why this is significant. A lot of people think they will “just grow out of it”, shedding pounds as they grow taller. While this may be true in some circumstances, over weight or obese preschoolers are 5 times more likely than normal weight children to become obese adults and thus leading to complications with diabetes, blood pressure and increased cardiovascular events.
If you have a little one struggling with weight…. or if you, yourself, are having a hard time with weight management, please contact our office to have a discussion on what can be done to help you achieve the healthy body you deserve. It is never too late to make a healthy change and never too early to start teaching healthy habits.
