We have all fallen; black ice, pets, loose toys – but who is at risk? People with weak legs, balance issues , or anyone who has fallen before.

If you are at risk, let your doctor know. He/She will check your medications (including over-the-counter ones) and ask questions about when and how you fell.

How to prevent falls in the future consists of balance and strengthening sessions, if needed. Getting up slowly when sitting or lying down. Wearing shoes that close well with low heels.

You can make your home safe by removing rugs or ensuring they are non-slip. Remove floor clutter, like cords or toys. Turn on the lights when moving around. Extra handrails for stability, or using a groovy cane or walking stick.
